Diamond in the Rough

Diamond in the Rough

Defintion:

Someone/something that has hidden exceptional characteristics and/or future potential,

but currently lacks the final touches that would make them (or it) truly …

Last weekend, while at the shop, someone said to me, ” nice little diamond in the rough you have here”.  At first, I smiled with gratitude, and then caught myself going into–overthink it–mode.  Wait! You don’t think this place is amazing as is or you do? Wait! What do you mean by that? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Lol.  So, I googled the catchy little phrase. Perfect definition 🙂

Onto this dresser…

Another brown dresser.  Another brown dresser! Another brown dresser!!  Me and my big ideas.  I had no love, whatsoever, for this one.  No vibes.  Nothing! What was I going to do with it?  It all started a few weeks ago when my Dad stopped by to “work”.  Which is not what I call this time…at all.  It’s more like…push-me-to-do-things-I’m-not-prepared-to-do-time.  Typical parent. That never stops…sorry kids of mine…but it’s a fact.  Anyhow, I’ve taught my Dad how to sand.  Turns out, he likes it, and is quite good at it.  Since the dresser appeared to have great grain on the drawers, he sanded them without my consent. Much to my suprise, they stained beautifully! Of course I used General Finishes gel stain, Java! The rest is history, so they say!  The paint is County Chic’s Cobblestone color.  Top was poly’d with General Finishes and the painted areas I waxed, using Mudpaint’s clear wax.  Yup, I mix brands up all the time…alittle of this…alittle of that! Waalaaa.  I must admit, I was flabbergasted when I was finished.  Therefore, the perfect name for this dresser, “Diamond in the Rough”.
